Age Suitability
How we keep ThinkaBit appropriate for young children · Updated 01 July 2026
Who ThinkaBit is for
ThinkaBit is an educational app designed for children ages 7–12, with content calibrated by age so it stays engaging and appropriate at each stage. It teaches AI literacy and online safety — how AI works, how to spot deepfakes and fakes, how to protect personal information, and how to think critically — through short, playful games rather than lectures.
A parent or guardian must create the account and give consent before a child can use the app. The experience is built to be a healthy, finite daily habit, not an endless feed.
Why it's appropriate for this age
- Education-first. Every activity teaches a concept in AI, data, ethics, cybersecurity, or media literacy across five themed worlds.
- No scary, violent, mature, or suggestive content. Lessons are friendly and age-appropriate, guided by three kid-friendly characters (Sparky, Glitch, and Pixel).
- No open chat or social networking. Children cannot message other users or strangers. Creative activities are guided and saved privately to the child's own profile — there is no public sharing.
- No gambling, loot boxes, or real-money mechanics for children. In-app stars are earned through learning and spent only on cosmetic items; they can never be exchanged for real money, and rewards are fixed, not randomized.
- No advertising. The app shows no ads and contains no third-party ad networks or behavioral tracking.
Privacy & child safety
ThinkaBit is built to comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and applicable international children's-privacy laws. In practice that means:
- We collect only the minimum needed — a display nickname (not a real name), age for content calibration, and learning progress. We do not collect real names, birthdates, location, photos, or advertising identifiers.
- We never sell children's data and never use it for advertising.
- Data is encrypted, and parents can view, export, or delete everything at any time.
See our Privacy Policy for the full details.
Parental controls
- Parent account & age gate at sign-up — a grown-up sets everything up.
- Parent PIN (4-digit, securely hashed) protects the Parent Dashboard, settings, and anything purchase-related.
- Parent Dashboard to follow your child's progress and manage or delete their data.
Purchases
ThinkaBit has a free tier. An optional Family subscription unlocks full access and is purchased and managed by the parent through the Apple App Store or Google Play, behind the parental gate. There are no purchases available directly to children inside the app.
